Dopo gli studi a Cremona, Il Malosso fu attivo a Piacenza dal 1585 al 1615. Le sue opere, ispirate ai principi della Controriforma, richiamano la lezione di Correggio per il senso di calma devozione e la tenerezza che lega i personaggi. In questa tela un maestoso sfondo architettonico è usato come palcoscenico per la “Holy Conversation” tra la Vergine Maria con il Bambino, San Giovanni Evangelista e Sant’Antonio Abate.
