Corot dipinse questo disegno al lago Nemi, a sud-est di Roma, nel giugno o luglio 1843. Ha adattato la vista per due dipinti, View of Genzano con Rider e Peasant (2009.400.30) e Genzano: Goatherd and Village (Phillips Collection, Washington). Si pensa che Corot abbia dato entrambi agli amici, ma ha tenuto questo sketch fino alla fine della sua vita.
