Questo piccolo pannello, probabilmente fatto nel 1860, era evidentemente ben noto e ammirato nel circolo di amici di Corot. Sia Constant Dutilleux (1807–1865) che Charles Desavary (1837–1885), due pittori che vivevano ad Arras, una città del nord della Francia che Corot spesso visitava, copiava il dipinto. Informazioni 1873 Corot lo diede al suo patrono Cléophas, che gli aveva fornito uno studio supplementare dove poteva lavorare indisturbato.
