Questo studio di una mucca può essere unico nell'opera dell'artista. Potrebbe essere una mucca di Breton o forse un Fribourg, entrambi tipi abbastanza diffusi. Corot non è spesso considerato come un pittore di animali perché li ha inclusi raramente nei suoi dipinti. Eppure, quando appaiono, nei paesaggi, nelle scene mitologiche e persino nei ritratti, evince una direttività e sensibilità commisurano con il suo trattamento della forma umana.
