Nel 1781, Houdon progettò due figure a grandezza naturale che personificano l'inverno e l'estate: una giovane donna, intorpidita dal freddo, e un giardiniere donna che tiene una lattina d'irrigazione. Queste opere, entrambe detenute dal Musée Fabre a Montpellier, furono scolpite in marmo nel 1783 e nel 1785. Le figure hanno dimostrato così successo che lo scultore ha deciso di reinterpretarle in diverse dimensioni e materiali (bronze e terracotta). Tuttavia, produsse solo busti della figura dell'Estate, nelle versioni in gesso e marmo compreso questo bel pezzo acquistato da Moïse de Camondo, che apparteneva alla collezione del Général Comte de Vibraye presso lo Château de Freschines nella regione Loir-et-Cher di Francia.
