TESTO DI LABEL Anche se sembra essere un’opera d’arte finita, questa tela si ritiene comunque il modello (disegno di lavoro) per la grande pala d’altare di Philippe de Champaigne commissionata per l’altare maggiore della chiesa al Grande Chartreuse, il monastero capo dell’ordine religioso cartesiano situato a nord di Grenoble, in Francia. La pittura di altare oggi è nel museo in quella città. Monumentale nel concepimento e caratterizzato da una pietà e austerità appropriate per i suoi patroni, il profondo di Champaigne Il Cristo morto sulla Croce raffigura un momento specifico annotato nel Vangelo Secondo Giovanni (19:30): “ha inchinato la testa e ha rinunciato al suo spirito. ”
