Thurston Hopkins was a British photojournalist and centenarian. He is best known for his work at Picture Post magazine during the mid-20th century. Born Godfrey Thurston Hopkins on April 16, 1913 in South London, England, he studied graphic art at Brighton College of Art before teaching himself photography. During World War II, he served in the RAF Photographic Unit and began using a Leica camera, which became his preferred tool for the rest of his career. After the war, Hopkins worked as a photojournalist for Picture Post magazine, capturing images that documented post-war Britain and its people. He also contributed to other publications such as The Observer and Vogue. In addition to his photographic work, Hopkins was an accomplished painter and illustrator. He passed away on October 27, 2014 at the age of 101.
