Tetsuya Ishida was a Japanese painter born in Yaizu city, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1973. He studied at Yaizu high school in Shizuoka and then at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Ishida quickly gained recognition in Japan's contemporary art scene with his surrealist portrayal of late-20th and early-21st century Japanese city life. His works typically depict hyperrealistic boys and men whose bodies are integrated into everyday appliances, industrial machinery, civic architecture, and animal forms. Ishida's paintings address the themes of isolation, consumerism, academic & professional workplace anxieties, and urban banality. He died in 2005.
