Louis-Oscar Roty, also known as Oscar Roty, was a French artist born in Paris in 1846 and died in 1911. He was one of the most celebrated medallists of the Art Nouveau period. Roty studied painting and sculpture, and became a renowned medallist, influencing the Art Nouveau movement. He designed hundreds of art medals and is well known for his 'Semeuse' image on French silver coins and stamps. Roty's medallic art can be found in nearly all European museums.
