Maximiliano Augusto Herrmann was a Portuguese inventor and engineer. He is known for creating the Herrmann wall telephone, also called the 'privileged phone', in 1880. This pioneering use of buttons to activate the telephone played a fundamental role in the opening of public lines in main cities of Portugal. He also created the Campaign Telegraph, which worked with the transmitter and receiver in Morse code. Herrmann introduced great technical changes in Morse receivers, making it more simple and easier to regulate. These improvements were praised at the International Telegraphic Conference in 1865. He was born on April 17, 1838, in Lisbon, Portugal, and attended the Industrial Institute of Lisbon from 1857-1862. Herrmann performed many works that have been awarded internationally.
