Rani Pooviah Nanjappa, also known as Rani Nanjappa, was born in Port Blair, India in 1934 and passed away in 1992. She was a renowned Indian painter from Coorg state, who was active in the Madras Art Movement in the 1960s. She moved to the US in the 1970s. Rani Pooviah Nanjappa was one of KC S Paniker's favorite students and taught at the Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai. She was one of very few women in the field at that time. She gained her Bachelors of Arts from Stella Maris College, University of Madras in 1957 and a diploma from the Government College of Arts and Crafts. She was known for her paintings, including 'Composition' (1962).
