Ryan Villamael is a Filipino Postwar & Contemporary artist, born in 1987 in Laguna, Philippines. He is one of the few artists of his generation to have abstained from the more liberal modes of art expression to ultimately resort to the more conservative modes of art. He has chosen to work primarily with paper as his sculptural medium, exploring themes, tensions, and trajectories of his chosen material since his first solo exhibition. His works have been featured in numerous key galleries and museums such as Silverlens, New York. He is recognized as the foremost artist working with paper as sculptural medium in the Philippines.
