Korean painter Heo Suyoung's canvases are slow, all-encompassing scenes that take a long time to enter as a viewer. With lush, richly layered foliage and dense brush, his works exceed the reproduction of images and recording, and foreshadow the things that exist and are extinct. Ultimately, his works refer the process of seeking the essence of a being after the reality has vanished. Heo's process of accumulating and overlapping the landscapes in one canvas is initially a record of memory, not an extrapolation of a subject. But its beginning drives from transferring realistic scenery onto a canvas, and is based on a lucid reality.
