Royall Brewster Smith was a well known 'itinerant artist' or 'primitive artist' from the United States. He was born in Boston in 1801 and died in 1855. Smith was known for his portraits and landscapes, and was particularly active in the New England region. He is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
