Rui Chafes is a Portuguese sculptor born in Lisbon in 1966. He graduated in Sculpture from the Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa in 1989 and studied with Gerhard Merz at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany between 1990 and 1992. Chafes is known for his work in steel, exploring themes of memory, time, and space through minimalist forms. His sculptures can be found in public spaces and private collections around the world.
