Ladislav Jan Saloun was a Czech sculptor of the Art Nouveau period. He is best known for designing the Šaloun Villa, a studio in Prague that served as his workspace and meeting place for the Czech intelligentsia. The villa features an Art Nouveau design with inscriptions and wall reliefs created by Saloun and his friends. Saloun also won the commission for the Jan Hus Memorial, a gigantic monument dedicated to Jan Hus who was burned at the stake in 1415. The memorial has become a symbol of Czech self-government and is located in Old Town Square in Prague.
