Wu Boli was a Taoist priest at the Shangqing ('Upper Purity') Temple on Dragon Tiger Mountain, Jiangxi Province. He was a close follower of Fang Congyi (ca. 1301–ca. 1392). Wu Boli painted 'Dragon Pine' for Zhang Yuchu, the forty-third Daoist 'pope' of the Orthodox Unity School of Complete Perfection. Wu Boli's late 14th century hanging scroll 'Dragon Pine' is a magnificent example of Chinese nature imagery and a symbol of longevity and of the Tao itself.
