Le superfici brillanti di metallo e vetro riflettono frutti lussureggianti e un aragosta in questa vita ancora. Tavoli pesanti come questo, che vantano sia i prodotti alimentari che i lussi importati come la ciotola di porcellana blu-e-bianca della Cina, caratterizzano la vita olandese nella seconda metà del XVII secolo. Tali dipinti rappresentano uno spostamento lontano dai promemoria dell'immortalità e della vanità nelle vite ancora precedenti e verso un abbraccio di cuore di piaceri terreni. Questo dipinto è stato sequestrato dai nazisti dal barone Karl Neuman (Charles Neuman de Végvár) a Parigi e ricostituito a lui entro il 1947.
