Palissy ha creato una varietà di ceramiche, come questo nello stile di quello che ha chiamato “fische di ferrite”. Queste opere danno un'occhiata intima al mondo botanico di pesci, rettili e altre fauna. Le opere di Palissy sono “rustique” o “rustic” nel senso che catturano il dramma della natura nella vita animale che è più vicino alla terra. Nella ceramica di Spencer, un serpente è strisciato su una piccola isola, inviando altre creature ai confini del bacino per la sicurezza. Le figure sul bacino sono realistiche perché sono state gettate da muffe di vere rane, serpenti, pesci e piante. Palissy aderì le forme su una superficie irregolare che simula il pavimento densamente coperto della foresta. Le conchiglie, parzialmente incorporate nella superficie, riflettono l’interesse di Palissy nei fossili. Oltre alla sua fama di ceramica, Palissy è riconosciuto come un naturalista precoce.
