TL Solien is an American artist born in Fargo, North Dakota in 1949. He received a BA degree in Art from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN in 1973, and an MFA in Painting and Sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1977. Solien is known for his painting, which employs the Postmodern aesthetic of pastiche, blending easily recognizable images and styles. His work has been exhibited in numerous key galleries and museums, including the Luise Ross Gallery in New York, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in WI, the Plains Art Museum, and the National Gallery of Australia. Solien's art often explores the relationship between abstraction and figural narrative, and he has developed a personal, idiosyncratic visual language in his 'self portraits'. He currently lives and works in Madison, WI.
