Barend Leonardus Hendriks was a Dutch painter, draftsperson, and lithographer born on December 8, 1830, in Arnhem, Netherlands. He originally worked as a house painter but later learned to paint at the Academies of Brussels and The Hague. Hendriks was known for his paintings and was part of the Hague School movement, which was influenced by the French Barbizon school. He generally used somber colors in his work, which is why the Hague School is sometimes called the Gray School. Hendriks passed away on April 6, 1899, in Arnhem, Netherlands.
