Early Life and Career

Charles F. Bretzman

, a German-born photographer, was born on July 26, 1867, in Hanover, Germany. He came to the United States in 1885 and traveled across the country before settling in Indianapolis in 1900. Bretzman established his photography studio, Koehne Studio, also known as the Bretzman Photo Company or the Bretzman Studio, on South Illinois Street.

Legacy and Family Involvement

Charles Bretzman's son, Charles Noble, and grandson, Erich, also became professional photographers in the family business.
