Architectural Career and Artistic Forays

Wade began his architectural career under Edward Fernley Bisshopp, later attending the Architectural Association Schools in London. He qualified as an architect in 1906 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1907. Notable collaborations include working with Raymond Unwin at Parker & Unwin, leading to the design of several notable structures, including the tiled arch of Twitten Passage.

The Artist Emerges

Following his father's death in 1911, Wade devoted himself to art and collecting. Notable collaborations include illustrating Bruges: a Record and Impression by Mary Stratton (1914) and The Spirit of the House by Kate Murray (1915). Exhibitions at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (1911) and the Royal Academy (1925) solidified his artistic presence.

Snowshill Manor: A Legacy of Eclectic Taste

In 1919, Wade purchased Snowshill Manor, a dilapidated Cotswold manor house, which he meticulously restored. Assisted by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, he designed a new garden for Snowhill. Over four decades, Wade's ever-growing eclectic art collection transformed the manor into a treasure trove of art and history.

Legacy and National Trust

In 1951, Wade gifted Snowshill Manor and its collection to the National Trust, ensuring his legacy endures. Wade's passing in 1956 marked the end of an era, but his artistic and architectural contributions continue to inspire.
