Chobunsai Eisi, also known as Hosoda Eishi, was a Japanese artist born in Tokyo, Japan in 1756 and died in 1829. He was an artist of ukiyo-e, a type of Japanese art known for its woodblock prints and paintings. He was one of the masters of this art form and was also known as Bunryūsai. He was the son of a samurai from Edo and initially studied painting in the aristocratic Kanō school. He later became a painter for the shogun, a position that provided him with financial security. However, he left this position to pursue ukiyo-e and later returned to painting in the Kanō style. He is known for his paintings of beautiful women and is considered one of the leading painters of women in the ukiyo-e tradition.
