Biografia:
Corporal Richard M. Gibney USMC (1922 – 2000) was a United States Marine who fought in the Pacific theater during World War II. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 27 October 1942 and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 18th Marines, 2d Marine Division. He fought in the battles of Tarawa, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Tinian, Marianas Islands, Saipan, and Okinawa. After the war, Gibney received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1959 from Syracuse University and worked as an artist. In the 1990s, he created a series of paintings from his wartime experiences for the Museum’s art collection. He died in October 2000.
