Serhii Ivanovych Vasylkivsky was born on October 19, 1854, in Izium, Ukraine. He was one of the most prolific Ukrainian artists of the pre-revolutionary period and an expert on Ukrainian ornamentation and folk art. Vasylkivsky's art is characterized by its dynamism, particularly in the sky expanses, which he felt first and foremost. He was a master of painting, landscape art, and interior decoration. Vasylkivsky died on October 7, 1917, in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
