Philip Hulitar was a fashion designer, artist, and preservationist born in Athens, Greece in 1905. He was educated in France and Italy and developed an interest in design. Hulitar became known for his distinctively tailored and elegantly decorated cocktail dresses and evening gowns in the rapidly-changing world of postwar American couture. He opened his own business in 1949 and started designing maternity, evening, and wedding attire for Bergdorf Goodman in 1935. Hulitar died in 1992 in Palm Beach, Florida.
