Kirsty Buchanan, also known as Kirsty Coventry, is a Zimbabwean artist and politician, born in Harare in 1983. She is best known for her work as a swimmer, having competed in five Olympic Games and winning a total of 11 medals, including seven gold medals. She is also a member of the International Olympic Committee and was elected Chairperson of the IOC Athletes' Commission in 2018. In 2018, she was appointed as the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation in the Cabinet of Zimbabwe. Buchanan's art focuses on reworking historical tropes to carve out new spaces for the feminine within the history of art, using drawing, painting, and other mediums. She has exhibited in numerous key galleries and museums, including Transition Two.
