Alma Kalaju Webou was a Yulparija elder who grew up in Pinkalakara in the Great Sandy Desert. She led a traditional existence until the early 1970s when severe drought forced her to leave her home and move to the coastal town of Bidyadanga. Her artwork often depicts her desert country with vibrant contrasts, reflecting her experience of living between two different landscapes. Alma Webou was born in 1928 and passed away in 2009.
