ชีวประวัติ:
American painter Amy Sherald has made a name for herself with her striking and thought-provoking portraits. Born on August 30, 1973, in Columbus, Georgia, she has become known for her unique style and approach to portraiture, often exploring issues of race and identity.
Sherald's early interest in art was evident, but her parents wanted her to pursue a career in medicine. However, after a school field trip to the Columbus Museum, she realized that art could be a profession. This experience, combined with her own experiences as an African American student in a predominantly white area of the South, has influenced her themes and style. Her upbringing also made her conscious of race from an early age, and she sought to create paintings that challenged conventions about skin color and race. Since 2012, Sherald has used grisaille to depict skin tones, a choice intended to challenge these conventions.
In 2016, Sherald became the first woman and African American to win the National Portrait Gallery's Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. The next year, she and Kehinde Wiley were selected by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama to paint their official portraits, becoming the first African Americans to receive presidential portrait commissions from the National Portrait Gallery. Some of her notable works include First Lady Michelle Obama, Light is easy to love, and The Bathers. Her piece Welfare Queen sold for $3.9M in a Phillips New York auction, highlighting the need for more governance around resale royalties for artists.
Sherald's work has significantly increased attendance at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Her unique style and approach to portraiture have made her a prominent figure in the art world, and her legacy continues to inspire and challenge conventions. https://Wikioo.org/@/Amy-Sherald https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Sherald https://Wikioo.org/@@/D44SPE-Amy-Sherald-First-Lady-Michelle-Obama
