A. Kashshai, also known as Anton Mikhailovich Kashshai, was born in 1921 in Dubrynychi, Perechyn district, Transcarpathian region, Ukraine. He studied art under the famous painter-teacher I.Bokshai. In 1954, he became a member of the National Union of Ukrainian Artists and in 1964, he was honored as an Artist of Ukraine. Kashshai is known for his works in the Trans-Carpathian school of painting.
