Danail Dechev was a Bulgarian artist born in Razgrad in 1891 and died in Sofia in 1962. He finished the Promishleno Tekstilno Uchilishte in Sliven and settled in Plovdiv in 1919. He became a member of the Druzhestvo na Yuzhno-Bulgarskiite Hudozhniki in 1921. Dechev is considered one of the most significant representatives of landscape painting in Bulgaria, despite not having an academic art education. His work was recognized with numerous Bulgarian and international awards. He is known for his panoramic and urban landscapes, as well as figural compositions amidst natural background. Getting to know the art culture of France and Italy in 1932 played a major role in the formation of his aesthetic taste.
