Domenico Zeni, also known as Domenico Zeni called the Pittorello, was an Italian painter born in Bardolino, Italy in 1762 and died in Brescia, Italy in 1819. He learned to paint from his father and later studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Verona. He then moved to Trentino where he worked as a portrait painter for the local nobility and as an official painter for the Prince-Bishop. He produced numerous works for churches and villas in Trentino, specializing in the creation of Via Crucis and working in the Castello del Buon Consiglio and the Corte di Castelvecchio. He also wrote poetry and collected books and prints. In 1812, he moved to Brescia, where he painted the chapel of the Rosary in the parish of Pisogne and the Via Crucis of Bione. He also worked in the churches of San Bartolomeo and Santa Maria della Pace in Brescia. His best-known works are the two large paintings depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew.
