Eugenio Azcue was a Spanish painter considered the point of union between neoclassical and romantic aesthetics. He studied at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid, then continued his formation in Rome and Paris. Upon returning to Spain, he dedicated himself to painting religious scenes and historical figures. He worked on decorating several churches in the province, including the parroquia de Santa María de Tolosa and the sacristía de Santa María in San Sebastián. Azcue also explored allegorical painting and created numerous portraits of famous Gipuzkoan characters.
