Frans Smissaert was a Dutch painter. Smissaert was a descendant of the noble family of Smissaert and a son of Frans Smissaert (1823-1905) and Anna Maria Elisabeth van der Does (1834-1914). He was born in The Hague and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Smissaert was a member of the Pulchri Studio in The Hague and the Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij in Amsterdam. He exhibited his work in the Netherlands and abroad, including at the Paris Salon. Smissaert's work is represented in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, among others. He died in The Hague.
