Hannah Davis was an American inventor, entrepreneur, and manufacturer of the country's first wooden bandboxes, covered in colorful papers and used for jewelry, hats, and other personal items. She was born in Jaffrey, New Hampshire in 1784, the daughter of skilled clockmaker Peter Davis. Davis sold many of her bandboxes to Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont, where they are currently exhibited in the Hat and Fragrance Textile Gallery. Davis died in 1863.
