James Banford was an English porcelain painter who worked for the Derby porcelain factory. He was born in Derby, England in 1772 and died in 1827. Banford was known for his high-quality bone china and produced tableware and ornamental items since approximately 1750. He was a significant contributor to the Derby Porcelain, which was known as 'Derby Porcelain' until 1773, when it became 'Crown Derby', the 'Royal' being added in 1890. Banford's work is highly valued and collected by many, and his pieces can be found in museums and private collections around the world.
