ชีวประวัติ:
Jan Cornelisz Vermeyen, also known as Jan Mayo or Barbalonga, was a Dutch Northern Renaissance painter born in Beverwijk in 1504. He was honored for his career in the service of Charles V and was a friend of Jan van Scorel. Vermeyen was a painter and tapestry designer, probably a pupil of Jan Gossaert. He became court painter to Margaret of Austria, regent of the Netherlands, in 1525.
Vermeyen's early life and training are not well-documented, but it is believed that he was born in Beverwijk, a village about 10 kilometers north of Haarlem. He declared in his will that he was 55 years old in 1559, which means he was born around 1503. Vermeyen's artistic style shows similarities with that of Jan van Scorel and Jan Gossaert, who were among the first painters of the Habsburg Netherlands to visit Italy and Rome.
Vermeyen's notable works include a set of twelve tapestries commemorating scenes from the campaign of Charles V, which would travel with the Emperor wherever he went. He also painted the portrait of the Hafsid King of Tunis Moulay Hassan, which was later copied by Peter Paul Rubens. Vermeyen's designs for tapestries can be found in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Some of his notable works include:
Vermeyen's work had a significant influence on the development of Dutch art in the 16th century. His use of color and composition can be seen in the works of later artists, such as Willem Vester and Johan Mari Henri Ten Kate. Vermeyen's designs for tapestries and his portraits of royalty and nobility demonstrate his mastery of the medium and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects.
