Juanelo Turriano, also known as Janello Torriani, was an Italian/Spanish inventor and clock maker who lived during the Renaissance period. He is best known for his work on automatons and mechanical devices such as clocks and water lifting systems. Born in Cremona, Italy around 1500, Turriano moved to Spain where he worked under Charles V and later Philip II. Some of his most notable inventions include the Artificio de Juanelo, a device designed to lift water from the Tagus River to supply Toledo with fresh water, and various automatons such as the Music Automaton created in 1580. Turriano passed away in 1585.
