Jean-Claude Chambellan Duplessis, also known as Duplessis père, was a goldsmith, sculptor, ceramics modeller, bronze-founder, and decorative designer born in Turin, Italy in 1699. He moved to Paris in 1718 and became a privileged worker in the Louvre, not bound by the rules of the Paris guilds. Duplessis served as artistic director of the Vincennes porcelain manufactory and its successor at Sèvres from 1748 until his death in 1774, and as royal goldsmith from 1758 to 1774. He was known for his work in the Rococo manner and produced a variety of decorative objects, including porcelain, bronze, and precious metals. Duplessis died in 1774.
