Johann Georg Pinsel, a Baroque-Rococo sculptor, was active in Eastern Galicia (then in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, now in Ukraine) during the 18th century. Born between 1715 and 1725, Pinsel's life and work are not well-documented, but his sculptures have left a lasting impact on the art world.

Early Life and Career

Pinsel was discovered by Jan Bołoz Antoniewicz and first appeared in scholarly literature in 1923. His ethnic origin is believed to be German, although his native region is not established. Pinsel settled in Buchach and worked as a sculptor under the patronage of the rich Polish aristocrat Mikołaj Bazyli Potocki. On May 13, 1751, he married Marianna Elżbieta née Majewska, with whom he had two sons: Bernard and Antoni.

Artistic Style and Works

Pinsel's sculptures are characterized by their Baroque-Rococo style, which was popular during the 18th century. His works include sculptures and decorations of the Buchach Town Hall (1750s), the Trinitarian church (1756–1757), and the St. George's Cathedral (headquarters of Greek Catholics) in Lviv (1759–1761).
