Johann Heinrich Dannecker was a German sculptor born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1758. He died in Stuttgart in 1841. Dannecker was educated as a sculptor in Stuttgart and later traveled to Paris, Rome, Bologna, and Mantua. He became a professor at the Hohe Karlsschule in Stuttgart in 1790. Dannecker is considered one of the most important sculptors of the 1800s in the German culture, known for his simple and natural compositions, as well as his famous works such as the Monument of Schiller, the comte de Zeppelin monument, Sapho, Ariane on the Panther, and the busts of the king of Wurtemberg Frederick, Archduke Charles, Gluck, and Lavater.
