Josep Armet i Portanell was a Spanish painter and lithographer born in Barcelona in 1843 and died in the same city in 1911. He began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in La Lonja de Barcelona, where he was a disciple of Ramón Martí Alsina. He cultivated themes such as landscape, genre painting, portrait and decorative painting. His work is characterized by a loose brushstroke and a vivid use of color.
