Kamol was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1958 and is one of the most renowned curators and art writers in the Asian region. He is known for his work in the exhibition 'Contemporary Art in Asia: Traditions/Tensions' in 1996-1997, which was held in three locations in New York City and organized by Vishakha N. Desai and Apinan Poshyananda. The exhibition introduced a range of issues and practices that animated new Asian art, focusing on art from urban centers in five Asian countries: India, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. Kamol's work in the exhibition confronted issues such as the preservation or eclipse of tradition, increasing globalization, rapid modernization, and changing relationships with the West and within Asia. He is known for his resistance to the hegemonic legacy of Orientalism and his work in contemporary multicultural and postcolonial perspectives.
