Mustafa al-Hallaj, also known as Mustafa El Hallaj, was a Palestinian-born visual artist. He was born in Salama, Palestine in 1938 and died in Damascus, Syria in 2002. Al-Hallaj was a pioneer in the Arab art world, known as an 'icon of contemporary Arab graphic arts.' He primarily worked as a graphic designer, painter, and printmaker. His work was often influenced by his Palestinian heritage and the political climate of the Middle East. Al-Hallaj spent most of his adult life in Beirut, Damascus, and Egypt, where he was involved in the arts scene and exhibited his work. He is considered one of the most important Arab artists of the 20th century.
