V M Sadanandan was an Indian film artist, who worked predominantly in the Malayalam movie industry. He was born in Paravur, India in 1926 and died in 2008 due to lung cancer. Sadanandan was chiefly a painter who painted dark brooding figures. Early in his career he did a few cement sculptures and this one depicting a woman is one of them. He was also a writer and performed Kadhaprasangam (story telling) in more than 15,000 stages for over 50,000 hours in a career spanning about 64 years. He wrote scripts for 12 films, lyrics for more than hundred films and acted in about 40 films. He received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship in 1981.
