Simon Jacques Rochard was a French artist born in Paris in 1788 and died in Bruxelles in 1872. He was a miniaturist and painted portraits of many personalities of the French imperial family, including Napoleon and Joséphine. He also painted portraits of members of the Belgian and English courts. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited his works at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and at the Salon in Brussels. He was married twice and had a daughter from his first marriage.
