Sir Kenneth George Luke, also known as K.G. Luke, was a successful businessman and V.F.L. football administrator born in Port Melbourne, Australia in 1896. He had been an apprentice of Stokes & Sons P/L from 1910, leaving the company in 1921 to become a partner in a metal-spinning and silverware business in Carlton. He later became the owner of the business, which became a successful silverware and military accoutrement firm, also making hospital equipment. The company was listed as K. G. Luke Pty. Ltd. in 1930, then changed its name to K. G. Luke (A/Asia) Ltd. in 1953. It became Luke Ltd. in 1976 and was taken over by National Consolidated Ltd. in 1983. Luke was also a manufacturer of buttons, with K. G. Luke Pty Ltd first listed as making buttons in 1934. The company made brass, copper, oxidised and white metal buttons for military needs, as well as brooches, badges, buckles, identity disks and heated food trolleys. Luke died in 1971.
