TRP. Mookiah was a senior sculptor and teacher of the Madras Movement. He was born in Madras, India in 1934 and died in 2009. He was known for his paintings and sculptures exploring the folk art traditions of South India. He worked mostly with terracotta and clay cast in bronze. In the sixties, he produced a number of works depicting nature and rural life. He gained his diploma in Painting and Modelling from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in 1959. In 1990, the Tamil Nadu Ovia Nunkalki Association honored him with a lifetime achievement award. His works have been featured in exhibitions such as 'Nature Morte, Vasant Vihar' and 'Art of T.R.P. Mookiah (1934-2009) - A Retrospective'.
