The Vitra Design Museum is a privately owned museum for design in Weil am Rhein, Germany. It was founded in 1989 by Rolf Fehlbaum, son of Vitra founders Willi and Erika Fehlbaum. The museum is an independent private foundation, but it receives financial support, the use of Vitra architecture, and organizational cooperation from the Vitra corporation. The museum's collection includes over 20,000 objects, ranging from furniture and lighting to household appliances and industrial design. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and conferences, and publishes books and other publications on design. The museum's building was designed by Frank Gehry and completed in 1989.
